Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace – Jesus

Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace – Jesus

I am about to show you my most cherished Christmas Decoration.  I gave these as gifts in 2007.  When I visit friends and family I see this sign often.  Some folks leave this one up all year long.

I intended it to be a Christmas decoration.  I get mine out for Christmas.  But, I understand why they leave it up all year.  Very cool.

Most of the year this is the sign that hangs above our sliding glass door beside the kitchen table.

I am sorry the picture is terrible.

The sign says,  “LORD, Give us this day our Daily Bread.”  It has cute little loaves of bread at the end.  I painted it on a slab of wood, so of course,  I love it.

At Christmas time he goes into hibernation and his spot is redecorated with this:

It is precious to me.  Mostly because of of Isaiah.  Second, because of what is on the back.

I wrote couple of notes on the back of this board when we made it.  My children LOVE when I make things.  They always get involved.  Back in 2007 it wasn’t any different.

Reverse back to the year 2007.  I had just had a new baby the summer before.  The other 3 children were 7, 5, and 3 years old.

The back of the sign documents the date and how everyone in the family was involved in the crafting of this gift.

All the kids signed the back.  Except the baby.  I signed for him.

If you would like to make your own;  here’s how you can make one:

1.  Find or purchase a 1 X 4 board.  (1 inch thick, 4 inches wide, 6 feet long)
2.  Cut the board to 6 feet long.  The wonderful thing about Lowes and Home Depot is they will cut anything for free and they will give away scrap wood for free (at least around here they d0).
3.  I had my husband router the edges of our sign. The router curves the edge of the board and creates a raised section for the lettering.   This dresses up the sign a bit – but  you could skip this step and leave the board flat.

4.  I stained the lip of the sign (the edges that were router-ed) with a deep mahogany stain.

5.  I painted the center (raised section) of the sign hunter green.
6.  I penciled the lettering on first;  then I went back over my letters with gold paint.

7.  Last, I edged the back side of the letters with black paint to create a shadow.  This too is not necessary.  I wanted the lettering to stand out more.

“He shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace- JESUS.”

My favorite.

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Isaiah 9:6

I love Christmas.
